Fortis-subsidiary MeesPierson on Curaçao is according to the Dutch Public Prosecutor involved in the construction of fraudulent tax routes via the Antilles.

The end of double taxation with Jamaica

The double taxation between the Netherlands Antilles and Jamaica will soon no longer exist. With the signing of the written agreements on this subject last Thursday in Jamaica, the conclusion of a treaty for the avoidance of double taxation between these two countries has reached its final stage.

Six new judges

The Council of Ministers for the Kingdom has agreed, on the proposal of State Secretary Ank Bijleveld Schouten (Kingdom Relations, CDA), to appoint six new judges. These judges are mr. I.K. van Acker, mr. M.T. Boerlage, mr. J.P. de Haan, mr. M. Keppels, mr. D. Thierry and mr. F.J.P. Veenhof.

Chamber of Commerce: ‘Without debt construction: doom-scenario-threat’

“Without debt reconstruction, Curaçao will experience a true doom-scenario with serious social-democratic consequences”, the Chamber of Commerce (Kamer van Koophandel) states in a press release, reverting to the referendum coming Friday. The press release contains an advice to the Board of Governors from the Chamber as an advisory body of the local business, trade and industry.

The Curaçao International Financial Services Association (Cifa) calls on everyone to vote for "Yes" at the referendum on Friday. According to the interest association of the international services on this island the vote for Yes will bring numerous advantages for the island and the sector.
