Welcome to Curacao Legal PortalThere is a large legal community in the Dutch Caribbean. Especially Curacao houses all kinds of legal institutions, lawyers and associations. However, until 2007 there was no website with general information about the legal system of Curacao, its institutions and its practitioners. Curacao Legal Portal, an initiative supported by the Court of Justice, the CIFA (Curacao International Financial Services Association), a number of local law firms and the University of the Netherlands Antilles, aims to fill this void. Besides this we provide the latest news, background information, a databank with laws and statutes and the agenda of the Court of Justice. The Antillean branch of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) explicitly states that they have nothing to do with the Madoff issue. The name of the company was connected to the American swindler, last Monday. Nevertheless, it concerns PwC in Canada and the Netherlands.

Although still on a so-called ’greylist’, which is not an official list, but rather a progress report, the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba both have committed to the internationally agreed tax standard.
The law firm VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne recently established the Foundation “Pro Bono VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne”. This foundation has the object, inter alia, to perform pro bono legal activities for less fortunate individuals and non-profit foundations, starting small enterprises and small businesses. Furthermore, one of their objects is the development and/or promotion of science, education, social education, and culture.

The system was designed in such a way that it can meet the entire need for energy of the island. Read more...Het bestuur van de Orde van Advocaten Curaçao heeft in een brief van 9 januari 2009 aan de Raad van State van het Koninkrijk ernstige bezwaren naar voren gebracht tegen de voorgestelde aanwijzingsbevoegdheid van de Nederlandse Minister van Justitie in zijn hoedanigheid van lid van de Raad van Ministers van het Koninkrijk. De voorgestelde regeling ging veel verder dan de aanwijzingsbevoegdheid die al sinds jaar en dag in het Statuut is opgenomen. De Raad van State heeft een negatief advies over de voorgestelde aanwijzingsbevoegdheid naar de Koninkrijksregering gestuurd.
